First Night Hanukkah 2023
The light needs to shine extra bright this year.
Today is Thanksgiving and so by tradition there has to be
an Turkey Doodle
But by coincidence it is also the first Day of Hanukkah
so herein lies the dilemma.
Do I doodle a dreidel or doodle a bird.
Guess which one won out.
It’s Friday…. it’s been a long week and I’m very happy that the week is winding down. The word on the street is that a big snow is headed our way for Saturday. I did say we have not seen a big snow in DC in a long time, so maybe this is the one. We will have to wait and see…. More will be posted tomorrow.
Also after 8 days, tonight is the last night of Hanukkah so to celebrate I took another look at the first Menorah that I doodled and gave it a touch up. Now all 8 candles are lit and shining bright. Next up we get ready for Christmas. The holiday season has given me a ton of new doodle ideas. I love it.
The last night and all the candles are lit
Isn’t it the norm that things wind down towards the end of the year? That generally you are not as busy, because you have the holidays to prep for. Well that is not the case. This week and yesterday especially have been crazy busy. Meeting after meeting, planning, organizing, pure corporate chaos. It will settle down I am sure, but right now it’s nuts.
I read the other day that Christmas and New year are he 2 most stressful days of the year. So even if your life is hectic and work is getting you down… take time to chill, pour a glass of wine…. and relax….. but not for long, your have 9 days till Christmas so go, go, go, you have shopping to take care of.
Tonight is the 7th night of Hanukkah so here we have 7 candles lit. This Menorah is representative of the real story of Hanukkah where the pot of oil was made to last for 8 days. I designed this with the candle holders shaped as little pots of oil.

This year is flying by. With only 10 days until Christmas, I hope that everyone has all their shopping done. The nice thing about Christmas this year is that it is a long weekend and with most people knocking off early on Christmas eve, it makes for a wonderful break, even if you don’t get to head out of town.
Another reason I love this time of year is that the Movie Award Season has just kicked off. I am a big Movie award buff. I have all the Academy Award shows on tape and never miss a single other Award show. It’s tradition in our house to print off ballots and make our picks for every event.
Well this week Awards season officially kicked off with the LA & New York Film Critics Awards and the Golden Globes that were announced yesterday and on Thursday the Screen Actors Guild announce their nominations. So you will be seeing a lot of Award show references for the next few months until the Grande Dame of Awards are presented at the Oscars in March. My early money is on “Up in the Air”, Invictus & “The Hurt Locker”, but it’s very early days. Come along for the ride.
That being said it is still the Hanukkah festival and tonight we light 6 candles. So, here is Menorah design no. 6
The 6th Candle is lit tonight
Why is it that Mondays are such crazy days. Long never ending kind of days. I suppose it’s better for the days to be long early in the week and more laid back when Thurs & Friday roll around. But after a hectic weekend to hear the alarm go off at 5:45 on a Monday morning is tough. But I made it through the day yesterday and am working getting my blog & doodle up for Tuesday morning.
I think I’ve mentioned this before that I prepare my entry the night before and have it scheduled to go live at 1:00 am EST. I was told a while back, that I must be very dedicated, because I am online and blogging at 1:00 am every day…. don’t you ever sleep? they said. That is the beauty of the internet and modern technology….. even while you sleep you still look like you are working.
Continuing with our Menorah collection, tonight is the 5th night of Hanukkah and so there are 5 candles on today’s Menorah.

One of the things I love about this holiday is the food, especially the crispy hot potato latkes. Topped with Sour cream and apple sauce…. What could be better, maybe a touch of cinnamon sugar…. delicious!
It was a cold raining day in DC yesterday…. not cold enough for snow, but a slow steady rain all day. The good thing is that we were able to sleep in. Surfaced around 10:30 and took it easy until we had to go to Sunday Soccer.

The 4th candle is lit
Before we Light the 3rd candle and share my 3rd Doodled Menorah I wanted to tell you about Gourmet. We have this dinner club, where we get together 3 or 4 times a year for a gourmet meal, good wine and many laughs. It’s a let your hair down, tickle your funny bone kind of evening and frowned upon if you miss it. (one of the reasons I couldn’t go to holiday cocktails at my boss’s house) We once had to miss it because we had to visit a house of mourning….. we are still reminded about that. Nothing is allowed to come between us and gourmet.
Last night was no exception, It was fun, very delicious meal……

It’s the 2nd night of the festival of lights tonight and so I have my second Menorah with 2 candles lit. At the end of the 8 days, I will run a poll to see which of the 8 Menorahs you liked the best. So I hope you are all taking notes.
It’s cold this weekend, but there are no major storms in sight…. maybe I shouldn’t speak too soon, but we are still not into true winter, so there are bound to be surprises in store for us.
