Skull-a-Day mention

June 30th, 2010 No comments

One of my ispirations for starting the Doodle daily blog was Noah Scalin’s Skull-a-Day Blog. I have spoken about Noah often and today he did a very nice feature on The doodle Daily hitting 365.  Noah has inspired many artistic people to take the 365 challenge (He posted a new Skull every day).  I just did it with Doodles.  To see a clearer version of the entry, take a look at Noah’s kind words on his Bonus blog for today.

Day 297 – Window to the World

April 23rd, 2010 2 comments

I’m ending off the “Master Class” series with what I call “The Landscape Doodle”.  This is a doodle that is somewhat planned out, yet still has the free form feel.  The Zentangles I did last week are like that in a way.  They were designed to fit in a predetermined space, they were planned out, yet the doodle itself was still free form.

A while back I did a series on  lansdcapes (Day 116 Kaapstad) or (Day 113 – Doodled Landscape) for example, that show case what I mean.  These Doodles set out with a purpose to to represnt something specific, even if some of them are abstract in nature.  Take a look back and let me know what you think.

Feature # 5 – Landscape

Sometimes when i am doing these, I will draw a rough pencil outline, since we are trying to create a “landscape” of sorts and with out an outline the landscape may fo astray.  Often, I will use different colors, so as to create more than one dimension and I always love the contrast of the black and blue.  I call this one “Window to the World” and when I started it I did not have a window in mind, that’s just how it evolved.  What you see through that window is purely up to your imagination.

Take a close look at this and tell me what you see, don’t be afraid to leave a comment.  I relish the feedback.

Day 214 – Paisley Classics

January 29th, 2010 No comments

Time to move on to something different. I am sure the classics will be back, because I am always finding old drawings where ever I turn.  So here are a couple more and then we will launch into the next exciting thing.  Paisley is a classic in it’s own right, so it definitely has a place here.

But first, did you notice the Social Network buttons I added to the top of the page.  Give em a click.  Show your love by “Digg”ing us or Stumbled Upon and if you haven’t yet become a fan on Facebook and follow the doodles on Twitter.  Here are details:

   www.twitter.com/thedoodledaily

and become our fan (tjomies.com) on

by clicking on the above Facebook link, will take you directly to the Tjomies Fan page (where the doodles reside).

Ok, I will check back tomorrow to see who loves us.

Now back to the Doodles and the last of the classics for now.

Classic Paisley

Another oldie, but goody.

Ok, I will give it a shot and go live with my Golden Globe predictions.  I am never great at hitting the mark, but this year I have seen most of the movies,  so I feel like I am in a position to try.  I know this is a non-doodle entry but sometimes having a forum like this allow you some creative license – and I have already posted my doodle of the day.

Day 202 – The Golden Globes

January 17th, 2010 No comments

Awards season has now kicked in to high gear.  Friday night we had the Critics Choice Awards on VH1 and tonight the Hollywood Foreign Press HFPA give us the Golden Globes.  Then next week it’s the SAGs and on Feb 2nd the nominations for the Grande Dame of awards shows “The Oscars” come out.  We will be following the Oscar Race very closely.

But tonight is a Golden Night.  I have always loved the Globes.  It’s casual, it’s unpredictable and most of all it’s always fun.

Predictions, do I dare make any predictions.  The Globes have always been tough to predict, because often they steer away form the obvious and also they have dramatic vs. comedy, giving a greater chance to those that might not get Oscar nominated, an award.  Later today, once we have done our “pics” (family tradition), I will blog my predictions down for you.  In the meantime as we await the celebrity red carpet arrivals, here’s my doodle tribute to all things golden.

Day 186 – Happy New Year

January 1st, 2010 No comments

It’s finally here.  The start of a new decade.  The teen years of new new mellinium have arrived.  Did you all pop open your champagne, clink your glasses and sing Auld Langs Ayne at midnight.  I followed the new year come in around the world culminating for us with the ball drop in Time Square.  A cold and snowy Time Square this year.  We even had a little of the white stuff in DC yesterday morning, but all I could think of was sandy white beaches and waves crashing against the shore.  To me New Year should be spent on a tropical island or somewhere warm and open.

So to all of you that follow the doodles around the world:

HAPPY NEW YEAR

And my take on the

Time Square ball

Day 185 – Farewell 2009

December 31st, 2009 No comments

New Years eve…. or old years farewell.  Anyway you look at it at 11:59:59 tonight it’s out with the old and in with the new.  This has been a long and interesting year and the end of a decade. So tonight when you pop open the champagne and toot your horns and toast to the new year ahead.  Reflect on the year that just ended, look at the ups, look at the downs, get closure and move on to 2010 with a smile.

Thank back on the 5 best things of 2009, right then down and then use them to grow in the year ahead.  Focus on the positive, no matter how hard the past year might have been…. Things can only get better.

Ok, enough with the philosophy, go out and party like its 2009.
