Day 182 – Oscar Contenders
Last week I made mention of how much I love this time of the year from a movies perspective, because all the best movies make there appearances around Christmas in order to make the Oscar deadline. This is also the time that all the nominations for movie awards are announced. So it’s an exciting time for a genuine movie buff.
I took advantage of the long weekend to take in 3 strong Oscar contenders and caught a fourth on DVD. I finally got a chance to see “Invictus” and say what you like, Clint Eastwood knows how to make a great movie. I was choked up many times (must be the South African blood running through my veins). Regardless of whether you care for Rugby or not, it’s a human story and very beautifully told. Morgan Freeman is incredible as Madiba and even though some have said Matt Damon is not deserving of his various nominations. He does an amazing understated piece of acting. He has the Afrikaner accent and mannerisms down pat. Do yourself a favor and see it.
And for those that never saw my doodle tribute to Neslon Mandela, which I did on his 90th birthday. As a tribute to Invictus, here it is again.
I also saw “Up in the Air” & “A serious Man” and both were brilliant movies. “Up in the Air” is superb and deserves a blog entry on it’s own. I loved Juno and I love this one even more. Jason Reitman has made another unbelievable movie and this one is a strong Oscar contender, for acting, writing, directing and many more.
Ok, enough about movies for now (because I can go on and on). Here’s the doodle for today:
