My favorite South African band are currently opening for Coldplay in South Africa and then they will be heading back to the States for another round of touring. You have to check them out and spread the word about how amazing South African Music is these days. I will be seeing then again this coming Wednesday at DC9, the same spot where I first got to see them play. In honor of their latest tour and the exposure they are getting by opening for Coldplay on their South African tour, I decided a Parlotones Logo Doodle was a perfect tribute. I love how this came out, and I think they would make amazing T-shirts.
So be sure to look out for them on their US tour, you will not be disappointed.
Saturday night we saw the amazing “Parlotones” here in DC. They are a fantastic South African band, whom I have featured several times on the blog. They just started their second US tour so make a point of looking out for them around the country. Here is a list of their Tour Dates. It’s time that great South African music was heard in the states. I was fortunate to get to meet the guys last night (thanks in part to the power of twitter)
Their signature look is the black shirt with red tie…. so I had to put pen to paper and give the guys the doodle respect they deserve.
They opened their set Saturday night with “Life Design” of their latest album “Stardust Galaxies” and eneded with “Push me to the Floor” and in between they entertained us with many of the hits from all of their earlier albums. This is a band to watch out for. Their music is infectious and they are captivating to watch live on stage. Once you know their songs you can’t help but sing along. The band are equally at home in a small intimate setting as they are in front of 10′s of 1000′s as was evident when they performed for the world at the Fifa Soccer World cup this past summer, in South Africa.
So look out for “The Parlotones” and let’s give them their US due.
Here are some shots from their performance at “The Red Palace” in Washington, DC
I recently received the latest Parlotones CD/DVD combo and, which was from a live concert they did in Johannesburg, a while back and I fell in love with the song “I’ll be there” Listening to it live is so cool. They actually played it at their show here in DC (the very first show of their US tour) So since I can not get the song out of my head, I thought I would share the video with you.
Check out the band on YouTube and their latest album “Stardust Galaxies” is now available in the states. It is fantastic. So today’s doodle is for “The Parlotones” and Jackie, I know you’ll like this one too.
