Day 387 – Wow!

July 22nd, 2010 Warren Please comment

What an amazing day!  First my blog gets nominated as one of the TOP 10 blogs in DC.  Then we have a crazy day of voting (and I do want to thank all of you who logged on to vote) and lo and behold, some smart ass has to mess with the votes and get themselves and their blog  eliminated.

The great thing is “The Doodle Daily” is still in the running, so now you all have to go out and vote once again.  You have until 12:01 am on Friday morning to vote.  So log on to WTOP, select “The doodle Daily” in the box that says “today’s poll” and vote, vote, vote.  We can win this.

We know that everybody has doodled at sometime or other, be it in a meeting, on the phone, on a napkin or magazine cover.  So you can all relate.  The Doodle is as much an art form as anything and Art is so prevalent in DC.  We fit DC to a tee.

So go out and vote.  Once again here is the link to cast your vote.

Today’s doodle pics up where we left off yesterday, with our new section on re-facing.  This one is one of my favorites.  The shape of the back was so perfect to draw on, like a permanent tattoo and she has a message to add as well.  So this one is for a Great Cause as well.

Here’s today’s refaced doodle for Day 387.  NOW GO VOTE!

Day 386 – Something Different

July 21st, 2010 Warren Please comment

I recently came across a site that opened up a whole new type of doodle design for me.  I have always drawn on a blank piece of paper and let my imagination run free.  Besides my object & post-it doodles every other doodle has been on a blank page.  But the site I came across was by an incredible artist in Australia, who took magazine images and drew over them and all I could think was, why had I not tried that before.

So often my doodles have been compared to Henna Tatoos, so I have no idea why I hadn’t tried this before.

Well, here is my first attempt and who better to use as a model than the stunning Lauren Hutton in an Olay ad.  I have since done several others, so you will be seeing them again and I will put up details of the site that inspired me as well.

For now, here is what I call “Re-Facing” I hope you like it.

And don’t forget to nominate me for best blog in DC (details on yesterday’s post)

Day 385 – Alien Designs

July 20th, 2010 Warren Please comment

This one (which could be a mask as well) does look very alien like.  It didn’t start off that way, but then they never do.  Most of the doodles materialize out of nowhere.

Let me know what you think of this one.  She even has a tear in her eye.  A softhearted Alien?

Day 384 – To market, To market

July 19th, 2010 Warren Please comment

We spent the morning yesterday at the Eastern Market downtown.  It’s been a while since I had been there and forgot how much fun it can be.  Despite the heat, we we had a really good time and came back with something different to make for dinner.  I was amazed at how many African curios you could pick up over there.  Who needs to travel to Africa to pick your wooden masks or Soapstone elephants any more.  Just head on over to the Market, you are bound to find them there.  And what’s with all the Giraffes  these days, we saw a ton of different Giraffe artwork.  I took some pics to share with “one million giraffes”

Today’s Doodle, reminds me of the African Masks we saw there.  Not quite a mask, but a Mask shape…. but it did give me some ideas of a series on Doodled masks.  More on that later.  The doodle itself also has an African feel to it.  I like it.

A mask like shape - without the mask

Day 382 – One Million Giraffes

July 17th, 2010 Warren Please comment

I recently submitted 2 of my doodles to a really cool website called “onemilliongiraffes.com” where the blogger tried to collect on million giraffes before 2011 and can you believe he is almost there.  I submitted one of my earlier giraffe doodles and this one.  I am working on another, which I better send in quickly because as of now they have collected 916, 370 giraffes.  Who knew there were that many out there.

I should do the same thing with doodles.

Here’s a link to the page that contains my giraffes, although I am thinking this page will shift as new images are added, so I will send you the direct link as well. Check them out, this is so cool.

Here’s a link to the main site, I am currently on Page 3 But to see me giraffes as they appear on the site directly here they are:

Giraffe 1 & Giraffe2 (which is today’s Doodle entry)

So give them some love and take a look.  This is what makes the internet so cool.

Here’s the Doodle Giraffe I sent them this week, it’s our doodle for Day 382.

Day 381 – Questions

July 16th, 2010 Warren Please comment

My twitter feed today said I was going to doodle the Old Spice guy, because there is nobody getting more attention or press these days.  Well I did the doodle, but my scanner froze up on me, so Mustapha, you’ll have to wait a while.

But that reminds me to tell you to hop on the twitter bandwagon and start following me @thedoodledaily.  Just head on over twitter.com/thedoodledaily and click follow.  I look forward to seeing you all there later and while you are at it if you are on Facebook, then why not show your love for the doodles by clicking “Like” us at the same time.

Ok, enough “plugging”, today’s doodle has a lot of questions around it.   I think I like it, but I have no idea why I created it.

Day 380 – tic tac doodle

July 15th, 2010 Warren Please comment

While I was doodling (innocently) in a meeting the other day, colleagues were playing a game of tic-tac-toe and that immediately inspired this doodle.  I simply call this tic-tac-doodle.
