The Doodle Daily

As they say in the classics or at least at every award show… It’s an honor just to be nominated.  I didn’t come out on Top as the Best Blog in DC, but no one can take away that I was nominated as part of the Top 10.  What an amazing honor.  I appreciate all those who voted, I appreciate all those who have stopped by the blog to say hi, or view my work.

The Doodle Daily is not your typical “What’s on in DC Life” blog, but I try through the art of the doodle to show what might be happening in our City.  So for that I was very happy to be included as one of the best.

I plan to keep the doodles going for a long time.  Very soon I plane to invite you all to join in the fun.  I will be starting to post guest doodlers on a regular basis.  So get out your pens and start drawing so that I can include you all in this amazing journey.

Now it’s time for today’s doodle.  Another in the series of “re-facings”

I recently came across a site that opened up a whole new type of doodle design for me.  I have always drawn on a blank piece of paper and let my imagination run free.  Besides my object & post-it doodles every other doodle has been on a blank page.  But the site I came across was by an incredible artist in Australia, who took magazine images and drew over them and all I could think was, why had I not tried that before.

So often my doodles have been compared to Henna Tatoos, so I have no idea why I hadn’t tried this before.

Well, here is my first attempt and who better to use as a model than the stunning Lauren Hutton in an Olay ad.  I have since done several others, so you will be seeing them again and I will put up details of the site that inspired me as well.

In just 10 days “the doodle daily” will be ONE.  Not bad for the little blog that could.  I’m thinking of all unique ways to end off our first year and enter Year 2 in true doodle style.  If you have a favorite doodle that you want to see again at the start if year TWO, please let me know.  Let’s call the Fan appreciation week.  In the mean time I have a few fun doodle ideas to share. 

Starting with 2 doodle faces. we haven’t seen them in a while and last week I came up with these 2 guys, while on a long distance call.

They don’t hold a candle to the ladies we’ve seen in the past, but since it was father’s day yesterday, the guys have to make an appearance.

Things are hopefully going to get back to normal today.  Schools are finally on track to get started, even though we got more snow overnight.  Enough already with teh snow is all I have to say. 

Today’s doodle is a lost and lonely soul,  She was supposed to be included in one of my earlier Dame collections, but the poor thing didn’t make the cut.  Well here she is today.  She looks like a school ma’am waiting to meet the kids coming back to school after an unscheduled 10 days off.

Watching the Grammy Awards, how could I not be inspired to doodle something crazy inspired by Lady GaGa herself.  Her makeup and outfits are outrageous enough.  She really has given us something to look at.  So I took pen to paper and came up with my own GaGa interpretations.  I will be honest, didn’t watch the entire show, what with the Pro Bowl & Housewives on at the same time.  much channel surfing going down last night.

Next Sunday is mega TV day, with the Superbowl on…. Always a good night, but that’s a week away and before then we have the Oscar Nominations to look out for.  It’s gonna be a great week.

It’s been far too long since the ladies have graced us with their presence.  They need to be heard, screaming out.  So girls here’s your chance to come on down to Doodleville and say hi.  Shortly I am going to have a competition to see which of the ladies you like the best, that will have prime position on our upcoming range of Doodette inspired greeting cards. 

Can you believe I am almost at day 200.  We will have to celebrate big time.

I have been crazy busy getting Christmas cards out that I don’t have time to write a long entry.  I will be back on track soon.  So here is today’s doodle.  Someone told me they liked my faces hidden within doodles.  So here is another one.

I spent hours last night working on getting our virtual store up and running and i’m almost there.   I just need a couple more days.  In the mean time the holiday cards are a big hit.  So if you are planning on ordering in time for Christmas send me an e-mail.  There may be a cyber Monday deal, for those that order in the next couple of days….

In the mean time, I thought I would invite you to spend some time with a new doodle family.  I call these guys “The Doodettes”.  Like all doodle families they are quirky and eccentric, but they are fun to have around.
